Milan Stitt
In Memory of Milan Stitt

Vincent Cardinal:

Milan Stitt passed away this morning in New York after a short illness -- he reluctantly canceled his last class on Sunday.  He was a great and good mentor, friend and midwife to plays.

All Best,

For those of you who worked with Heartlande on our development programs you may have worked with Milan directly. We were privileged to continue our relationship with Milan as we traveled into Pittsburgh to Carnegie
Mellon to see his students work.  He was a wonderful mentor, incredibly generous with his time

and talents and we will miss him greatly.

In Memory of Tom Aston

His inspiration and dedication to the theatrical community was generous beyond measure.    His passion, his commitment, his focus as an artist and as a friend will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  The letter below is from his family.

Dearest Friends,  It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we share with you the news of the passing of our father and friend, Thomas Aston. Though his battle with the recent leukemia diagnosis was moving in a positive direction, he contracted a lung infection on Thursday, June 16th which took him from us most unexpectedly.  Our heads and hearts are still reeling with disbelief as we attempt to move forward during this most difficult time. Please know that everyone's thoughts, prayers and good wishes have helped us to stay strong as a family so that we may honor his wishes, despite the sadness and shock we are experiencing. His wishes were to be cremated without a wake or memorial service.  There are no words to express the magnitude of the emptiness we're feeling but, knowing that he was loved by such a remarkable extended family brings us comfort and reassurance that his impact on this world made it a better place.

Tribute to Uta: Date:  January 25, 2005 The Roeper School

We are greatly saddened by the passing of Uta.   The creation of Heartlande Theatre Company began through studying with Uta.  Her tremendous insight, generosity, knowledge and passion of the theatre and respect for this craft stimulated us to create a company where we could use her methods to develop new work for the stage.  We took all that knowledge, that we feel privileged to have received from her, and used it in all areas of new work development.  From acting to directing to writing to facilitation and production we apply all those lessons learned in her classes.  Uta is irreplaceable, but her legacy can live on.  We will miss her always but feel honored to know her spirit will never diminish.

Ms. Hagen's Memorial Service was a beautiful and moving tribute to her life and legacy.  Donations in Uta's memory can be made to the HB Playwrights Foundation and sent to:
